On August 18, 2016, 30-year-old John Whitehurst of Montgomery, Alabama, was fatally shot. The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) promptly initiated an investigation into the incident. Their efforts led to the arrest of 20-year-old Vashard Belton, also a Montgomery resident, who was charged with one count of murder.
