On September 29, 1919, Police Officer John B. Barbaree was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on the 100 block of South Hall Street. Officer Barbaree, who was 41 years old at the time of his death, was fatally wounded during the encounter.
