On October 8, 2016, 64-year-old Army veteran and Birmingham resident, Calvin Lee Gunn, was fatally shot during an apparent robbery in the driveway of his Ensley neighborhood home. Gunn and his wife were returning home when they were approached by an armed individual who attempted to rob them. In an effort to protect his wife, Gunn was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
