In the early morning hours of April 25, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Davion Marcell Hickley was tragically cut short in a barrage of gunfire in the 800 block of 3rd Avenue West in Birmingham, Alabama. Just before 2 a.m., a shooting erupted that resulted in Hickley's death and left three other individuals wounded. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found a chaotic scene with numerous evidence markers indicating the intensity of the violence that had unfolded.
Davion, a 2021
graduate of Jackson-Olin High School, was remembered by his mother as a loving son. He was working at both the Dollar General warehouse and a local butcher shop at the time of his death. His mother recalls their last conversation, ending with 'I love you,' a final memory she holds onto as she continues to seek answers in her son's unsolved murder. The young man would have turned 23 in October of 2025.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the shooting as a homicide and has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the individuals responsible for Hickley's death. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in the case. Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. Hickley's mother has made public pleas, urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward and provide the closure her family desperately seeks.
