On January 19, 2007, 39-year-old Alberto Jackson was fatally shot by police during a confrontation in the Tom Brown Housing Community, located on the 4100 block of 5th Court North in Birmingham, Alabama. Following the incident, Jackson was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on the operating table. Subsequent investigations by the Birmingham Police Department's internal affairs division and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation concluded that the shooting was justified.
