On June 1, 2018, Birmingham Police discovered the body of 47-year-old Patrick Ladale Maxey inside a residence on the 1800 block of Princeton Avenue Southwest. Maxey had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, and authorities initiated an investigation into his death.
