On October 26, 2016, at approximately 1:00 a.m., 39-year-old Corey Dekel Merrida was fatally shot in the 1800 block of Centerbrook Lane in Center Point, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. Merrida had been staying at a friend's apartment and had stepped outside to retrieve an item from a vehicle.
