In the fading afternoon light of January 31, 2017, Juzahris Quintez Webb, a 17-year-old male student at Wenonah High School, was walking home with a friend. Their journey was abruptly and violently interrupted in the 3200 block of Cedar Avenue Southwest in Birmingham, Alabama, when a car approached them and an occupant opened fire. Webb was struck in the stomach by the gunfire.
Despite his grave injury, Webb and his friend managed to run to a nearby auto parts store for help.
Inside the store, Webb collapsed, informing the employees that he had been shot and asking them to call the police. He was rushed to UAB Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while en route. His friend was not physically harmed in the shooting. The shooting marked Birmingham's fifth homicide of that year.
The investigation into the senseless killing led Birmingham police to a stolen vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the shooting. This ultimately led to the identification of two suspects, Monterio Davis and Aquarius Fair. In April 2019, both men pleaded guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder for their roles in the death of Juzahris Webb and the shooting of his friend. They were each sentenced to ten years in prison, followed by three and a half years of probation.
