On a Sunday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Twenty-three-year-old Darius Moore, a Black male, was seated in his Ford Explorer on March 9, 2014, parked in the yard of his grandfather's home on Blocton Avenue. It was there that an assailant approached and opened fire, fatally wounding Moore. The gunman also fired a shot towards the house before making an escape on foot.
In the wake of the shooting, the community mourned the loss of Moore,
who was remembered as a bright individual. He was a father to a young son, Darius Moore Jr., and was cherished by his mother, siblings, and grandparents. His family and friends were left to grapple with the sudden and violent end to his life.
The investigation into the homicide led Birmingham police to a suspect in the days that followed the incident. Authorities arrested Tyree Law in connection with the fatal shooting. Subsequently, Law was charged with capital murder for his alleged role in the death of Darius Moore.
