In the heart of Montgomery, Alabama, a senseless act of violence tragically cut short the life of 13-year-old Maribel Barrera on March 23, 2017. A student at Capitol Heights Middle School, she was at her home on a Thursday evening when she was struck by a stray bullet. The young girl was not the intended target of the gunfire that erupted from a dispute that had nothing to do with her. She was simply an innocent bystander, caught in the crossfire of a violent altercation.
