In the early hours of a Tuesday in Washington, D.C., the life of 25-year-old Carl Ashton O'Neil Gray Fitzgerald was cut short by gunfire. On May 26, 2009, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Fitzgerald was shot and killed in the 1300 block of T Street, Northwest. The incident unfolded near the Pure Lounge nightclub, a place where he and his friends, who were part of a hip-hop group, would perform. That evening, however, friends noticed that Fitzgerald was unusually quiet and kept to himself.
