On a spring day in Montgomery, Alabama, a young man's life was tragically cut short. Jeremiah Roderick McDade, a 20-year-old Black male, was visiting the city with plans to start a new job and spend the summer working. On the morning of May 12, 2017, he had a conversation with his mother, expressing his love for his girlfriend and son. Hours later, he was fatally shot multiple times in the 4300 block of Woodley Square.
The Montgomery Police Department quickly launched an investigation
into the homicide. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 26-year-old Paris Moore. Just a week after McDade's death, on May 19, 2017, Moore was taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting. The swift arrest brought a sense of progress in the quest for justice for McDade and his grieving family.
The legal proceedings against Paris Moore culminated in him pleading guilty to the murder of Jeremiah McDade. On June 29, 2022, a judge sentenced Moore to life in prison. The conviction ensured that the man responsible for the untimely death of the young father would spend the remainder of his life behind bars. Following his death, Jeremiah McDade was laid to rest at the Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery.
