In the spring of 2017, a dispute in a garage in Northwest Huntsville escalated into a fatal triple shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old Ladarius Turner. On the evening of May 31st, Turner was in a garage on Brookmanor Drive with two other men, Cordarryl Toney and Montez Holt, playing video games. Their gathering was interrupted when two men, later identified as Brian Andre Simpson and Malcolm X Forman, entered the garage and began arguing with Toney.
The argument quickly
intensified, leading Toney to ask Simpson and Forman to leave. In the moments that followed, guns were drawn and shots were fired. When the violence subsided, all three original occupants of the garage had been shot. Ladarius Turner succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Cordarryl Toney was struck multiple times and was left paralyzed, while Montez Holt sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Weeks after the shooting, Brian Andre Simpson, then 38, was apprehended during a routine traffic stop in Conyers, Georgia, on unrelated gun and drug charges. He was extradited back to Huntsville in March 2018 to face charges of murder and first-degree assault for his role in the shooting. Ultimately, a jury convicted Simpson of the lesser charge of manslaughter in Turner's death.
The second suspect, Malcolm X Forman, was also charged in connection with the deadly incident. In March 2024, nearly seven years after the shooting, Forman accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to assault to avoid a murder trial. As a result of his plea, Forman was given a 15-year split sentence, with a requirement to serve 18 months before being eligible for parole.
