In the early morning hours of June 12, 2017, the life of 19-year-old Dashia LaShay Abrams was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding to a call just before 4:00 a.m. about a man slumped over the wheel of a car in an apartment parking lot on Villa Rica Court, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies made a grim discovery. Inside the vehicle, they found Ms.
Abrams and a male companion, both of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The man was identified as 21-year-old Austin Dewayne Scott. Investigators found a handgun in his lap, and the evidence at the scene led them to conclude that the incident was a murder-suicide. It is believed that Scott shot and killed Abrams before turning the gun on himself.
Further investigation revealed that Abrams and Scott had recently entered into a relationship. However, the motive for the tragic events that unfolded in that car remains undetermined. The case was handled as a death investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Dashia LaShay Abrams was a graduate of Huffman High School. Her funeral services were held on June 17, 2017, with interment at Zion Memorial Gardens in Birmingham.
