On August 12, 2017, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Opelika police responded to a report of an unresponsive individual in the 100 block of Easy Street. Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical services discovered 19-year-old Ladarius Marquise Cardwell lying in the front yard, exhibiting no signs of life and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced Cardwell dead at the scene.
