On October 28, 2017, 33-year-old DeAngelo Martezes Cain was fatally shot at the Sun Inn on Bessemer Road in Birmingham, Alabama. Both Cain and the alleged shooter, 36-year-old Anthony Lanard Carter II, were staying at the motel at the time of the incident. Following the shooting, Carter was arrested and charged with murder.
