In the late hours of Christmas Eve 2017, a tragic series of events unfolded in Cullman, Alabama, leading to the death of 22-year-old Logan Wayne Trammell. A talented musician and songwriter with dreams of a career in country music, Logan was a beloved son, brother, and friend. His passion for music was a significant part of his life, and he often shared his talents with those around him.
On that fateful night, Logan decided to borrow his father's truck.
His father, Donald Wayne Trammell, was in a camper next to his home and was unaware that his son was the one taking the vehicle. Believing his truck was being stolen, he shouted and fired a warning shot. When the truck continued to pull away, he fired again, this time at the tailgate. The truck then came to a stop.
As Donald Wayne Trammell approached the vehicle, he ordered the driver to get out. It was only when he opened the truck door that he made the devastating discovery that the driver was his own son, Logan. The bullet had struck the young man, who was rushed to Cullman Regional Medical Center. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Christmas morning. Family members described the incident as a horrific accident, stating that Logan did not live with his parents full-time and had never borrowed one of his father's vehicles before.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Donald Wayne Trammell was indicted by a grand jury for manslaughter in February 2018. In October 2019, he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to a 15-year split sentence, with three years to be served in a state prison. This was to be followed by a period in the Cullman County Detention Center and then the Cullman County Community Corrections Diversion Program. Concurrently, he also pleaded guilty to harassment and violation of a domestic violence protective order related to his estranged wife.
