In February 2018, 22-year-old Daniel Ray Osborn II was fatally shot in the back of the head while at the residence of Susan Smith, the grandmother of his acquaintance, Andrew Maresh, in the Fairview community of Cullman County, Alabama. Following the shooting, Maresh and another individual, Tyler Hudson, buried Osborn's body on Smith's property and attempted to conceal the crime. They used Osborn's cellphone to mislead his family, friends, and law enforcement into believing he was still alive.
