In the quiet community of Corinth, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of Wesley Shannon Taylor, Jr., a 22-year-old male from Cullman, Alabama. On the evening of March 12, 2016, what began as a favor for a friend turned into a fatal encounter. Taylor had been asked by his childhood friend, Isaac Wayne Hill, then 19, for a ride, a request that concealed a deadly intent.
Hill, reportedly distraught over a recent breakup and suspecting his girlfriend of infidelity, chose to vent his
anger on Taylor, who was not involved in the matter. After luring Taylor to a residence on County Road 1101, Hill had already prepared for the violent act. He had taken a 12-gauge shotgun from a closet and positioned it just outside a bedroom door. When Taylor arrived, he was accompanied by his girlfriend, who remained in the vehicle.
Once inside, Hill directed Taylor into the bedroom. As Taylor walked in, Hill followed close behind, raised the shotgun, and fired a single blast to the back of his head, killing him instantly. Following the shooting, Hill himself contacted 911 and awaited the arrival of law enforcement at the scene.
Isaac Wayne Hill was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Wesley Shannon Taylor, Jr. In the ensuing legal proceedings, Hill pleaded guilty to the murder charge. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the premeditated killing of his friend. As part of the plea agreement, he waived his right to an appeal. The court also ordered Hill to pay over $13,000 in restitution to the victim's family and the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission.
