In the winter of 2018, the life of 58-year-old Fonda Poellnitz was tragically cut short in Mobile, Alabama. On the evening of Tuesday, February 20th, police responded to a call on Ridge Road West where they discovered her body. The investigation into her death quickly led authorities to a person of interest: her 71-year-old ex-husband, Robert Hollie.
As the inquiry progressed, law enforcement officials located Hollie at his residence on Avondale Court.
They established a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with him, urging him to surrender. However, the situation escalated dramatically when Hollie opened fire on the officers who were securing the area. In the exchange of gunfire, Mobile Police Officer Justin Billa was struck. He was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, a standoff ensued for several hours. Specialized SWAT units were called to the scene and employed various tactics to resolve the volatile situation. When they finally gained entry to the residence, they found Robert Hollie deceased inside. Authorities later confirmed that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
