In a tragic turn of events on the morning of April 3, 2025, 61-year-old Carrie Jenkins, a Black/African American female, was found deceased in her Mobile, Alabama, home. The Mobile Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at approximately 11:48 a.m. in the 1700 block of Long Meadow Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mrs. Jenkins with a fatal gunshot wound.
Also present at the scene was her husband, who was suffering from a life-threatening, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The initial investigation by law enforcement suggests that the incident was a murder-suicide attempt, in which Carrie Jenkins's husband shot her before turning the gun on himself. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
As the suspect in the shooting was hospitalized, no arrests have been made in connection with Carrie Jenkins's death. The Mobile Police Department has encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward.
Carrie Jenkins was remembered by her loved ones as a cherished individual whose kindness and warmth left a lasting impact on those who knew her. A funeral service was scheduled to be held at the New Beginning Apostolic Church in McIntosh, Alabama, on April 12, 2025.
