On February 2, 2022, 42-year-old Melissa Cody was fatally shot in a room at the Days Inn motel in Tillman's Corner, Mobile, Alabama. The incident occurred when another man entered the room she was sharing with a male companion. Both Cody and the intruder sustained gunshot wounds; Cody was shot in the stomach and later succumbed to her injuries, while the man who entered the room survived and drove himself to a nearby urgent care facility.
