In the front yard of a public housing complex in West Tuscaloosa, a dispute escalated into deadly violence on the night of Saturday, March 10, 2018, claiming the life of 25-year-old Mulove Deasvon Williams. The fatal encounter unfolded at the Hay Court Apartments, located just past Stillman College off Culver Road. Williams sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The events leading to the shooting began with an argument between Williams, who was with
his family members, and acquaintances of another man, 29-year-old Jessie Cleveland Knox. The situation intensified when 24-year-old Edward 'Trey' Womack allegedly inserted himself into the conflict. According to witness statements gathered by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, Womack produced a firearm and discharged a round. This action was reportedly followed by shots being fired from Williams's side. In response, Knox began shooting towards Williams, striking him multiple times. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots during the confrontation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit quickly identified the individuals involved. On the morning of Sunday, March 11, 2018, Jessie Cleveland Knox was formally charged with the murder of Mulove Deasvon Williams. His bond was set at $150,000. Edward 'Trey' Womack was also taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment for his role in escalating the altercation. As he was being led from the scene by authorities, Womack reportedly shouted, 'Y'all shot at me first!' His bond was set at $9,000. The death of Mulove Deasvon Williams marked the third homicide in Tuscaloosa County for that year.
