On the evening of March 28, 2022, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 26-year-old Lamont LaKeith Cameron, a Black male, was fatally shot in a violent encounter that also left his half-brother wounded. The two men were inside a vehicle in the 3000 block of 27th Street in West Tuscaloosa when the shooting occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The brothers were rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of their gunshot wounds.
Tragically, Cameron succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. His half-brother, 25-year-old Orlando Blackmon, sustained injuries but was expected to survive. The gravity of the attack was compounded by the presence of Blackmon's two young children, who were in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Miraculously, a bullet that pierced the car only grazed the edge of one child's car seat, leaving both children physically unharmed but exposing them to a terrifying ordeal.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit launched an investigation into the homicide. As of the latest available reports, no suspects had been taken into custody, and no arrests had been made in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Lamont Cameron's death. The investigation remains ongoing as his family and the community await answers and seek justice.
