In the late afternoon of February 27, 2019, a dispute in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 24-year-old JaVaris Deandre Barnes. The young Black man was found deceased in a vehicle on Beech Street, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the victim of a gunshot wound.
