On August 17, 1920, Deputy Sheriff John C. Thrower of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office in Alabama was fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in the community of Kellerman. A woman had requested Deputy Thrower's assistance in settling a dispute at a residence. Upon their arrival, a male occupant of the home shot Deputy Thrower in the head, resulting in his immediate death. The assailant fled the scene and was never apprehended.
