In the autumn of 2018, the life of Perry Steven Fields, a 39-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Mobile, Alabama. On the evening of November 8th, Fields, a carpenter and father of five, was found at the Berkshire Arms Apartments, having been fatally shot. Responding officers discovered him deceased at the intersection of Cresthaven Drive and Seabreeze Road.
The investigation into the shooting quickly progressed, and the following day, Mobile Police apprehended a suspect
in connection with the homicide. Twenty-eight-year-old Jamal Hamilton was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder.
Years later, the case came to a legal conclusion. On March 29, 2022, Jamal Hamilton pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He was handed a 20-year split sentence, with a requirement to serve three years in a facility similar to a jail. The court credited the time he had already served from his arrest on November 9, 2018, to August 10, 2021, towards his sentence.
