On April 25, 2018, at approximately 12 p.m., Mobile Police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of North Lafayette Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old Carey Donte Wheat Jr., known as "Wee Wee," suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another 19-year-old male was also shot at the location and transported to the hospital for treatment.
