On a Sunday afternoon in Mobile, Alabama, on December 6, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Antonio Rowe was tragically cut short. Police responded to a call at approximately 2:11 p.m. in the 2800 block of Phillips Street, where they found Rowe deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The investigation into the shooting quickly identified two suspects.
The following day, on December 7, 2020, the Mobile Police Department arrested
24-year-old George Green Jr. and 22-year-old Nathaniel Henderson Jr. in connection with Rowe's death. Both men were charged with murder. Prosecutors alleged that the shooting stemmed from a drug deal that had gone wrong, with Green being the one who fired a rifle into Rowe's car, and Henderson acting as the getaway driver. Rowe was also a local rapper in the Mobile area.
The legal proceedings that followed saw a significant turn of events. In January 2024, George Green Jr.'s murder trial ended in a hung jury. The defense argued a case of mistaken identity, claiming that a witness's description of the shooter did not match their client. Despite this initial setback for the prosecution, the Mobile County District Attorney's Office decided to retry the case.
In a subsequent trial, both George Green Jr. and Nathaniel Henderson Jr. were found guilty in the 2020 shooting death of Antonio Rowe. Juries in Mobile County delivered the guilty verdicts in separate trials. Henderson was found guilty on a Wednesday, and Green's trial concluded with a guilty verdict late on a Friday night in May 2024. Sentencing hearings for both men were scheduled to take place following their convictions.
