In the early morning hours of June 4, 2023, a violent encounter in the Eight Mile community of Mobile, Alabama, left one man dead and another critically injured. William Anthony Jones, a Black male, was fatally shot on Myers Road. When Prichard Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Jones deceased and a second victim, Jacquel Bridges, with life-threatening injuries.
Bridges was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
At the scene of the shooting, authorities promptly arrested a suspect. Shanika Thomas was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of murder for the death of Jones and one count of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by Bridges.
The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting was initiated by the Prichard Police Department. Following her arrest, Thomas was scheduled for a bond hearing on the morning of June 5, 2023. The motive for the shooting and the relationship between Thomas and the two victims were not immediately disclosed to the public as the investigation commenced.
