In the early hours of a Wednesday in August 2010, the life of a young man was tragically cut short on a street in Southeast Washington, D.C. Sixteen-year-old Anthony Devon Barnes, a Black male, was in the 2200 block of Fairlawn Avenue when he was shot. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 12:51 a.m. to find the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
