On July 3, 2019, in Scottsboro, Alabama, 17-year-old Anthony Scott was fatally shot in the face while at a residence on the 19000 block of Alabama Highway 35. The incident occurred as a group of teenagers, including Scott, were handling firearms that had been stolen from recent vehicle break-ins in the area. Scott was transported to Highlands Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to Erlanger Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 5.
