In the quiet community of South Lyon, Michigan, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of December 30, 2020, forever altering the lives of a local family. Inside their home on East Liberty Street, 17-year-old Dylan Stamper, a white male, was fatally shot. The violent encounter also left his 43-year-old father, Kevin Stamper, critically wounded. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Dylan shot in the back; despite their efforts, he could not be saved.
His father, having been shot in the chest and leg, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
The investigation, led by the South Lyon Police Department with assistance from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, quickly pointed to a marijuana deal that had gone terribly wrong. Witnesses reported seeing someone flee the house shortly after hearing gunfire. The community was shaken by the incident, which marked the first firearm-related homicide in the area in decades. Less than a month after the shooting, on January 26, 2021, Kevin Stamper succumbed to his injuries, turning the case into a double homicide.
The investigation led to two suspects from Ann Arbor. On January 1, 2021, 19-year-old Fadi Zeineh, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to the Ann Arbor Police Department. He was subsequently charged with ten felony counts, including felony murder. A second suspect, 27-year-old Anthony Marshall Porter, was also arrested and faced charges of armed robbery and felony firearms. Investigators determined that Zeineh had entered the Stamper home while Porter waited outside in a vehicle.
In October 2022, Fadi Zeineh pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for the killings of Dylan and Kevin Stamper. The following month, an Oakland County Circuit Court judge sentenced him to 30 to 50 years in prison. During the emotional sentencing hearing, family members expressed their profound grief and anger over the irreplaceable loss of their loved ones. Zeineh also expressed remorse for the pain his actions had caused.
