In the spring of 2014, the life of 20-year-old DeVonte Weems was tragically cut short in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan. A Black male known affectionately to some as 'Dee Dee,' Weems was shot and killed on the evening of Wednesday, April 2, 2014. The incident, which marked Saginaw's first homicide of the year, took place around 6:30 p.m. in the area of 16th and Johnson streets on the city's Northeast side. Weems was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
