On June 6, 2013, 47-year-old Angie Renee Dixon was fatally shot inside her apartment on South Lombard Avenue in Evansville, Indiana. The events leading to the homicide began the previous evening when Dixon had a dispute with a former partner and another individual, prompting her to feel unsafe. Seeking companionship, she contacted an acquaintance, Brandi Michelle Phillips, around 2:00 a.m. Phillips arrived at the residence accompanied by two men, Blake Anthony Fisher and Katyun Jerrod Marsh. While the group spent time at the apartment, the situation remained calm until they prepared to leave approximately two hours later.
As the three visitors exited the apartment, a confrontation ensued. Marsh, who was 19 years old at the time, reportedly demanded five dollars from Dixon, claiming she owed him for marijuana. During this exchange, Marsh produced a firearm and shot Dixon. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene later that morning, where they discovered Dixon had succumbed to her injuries. She was survived by her parents and her daughter.
The Evansville Police Department launched an investigation that quickly identified the three individuals who had been at the apartment. All three were taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Katyun Jerrod Marsh was charged with murder, while Brandi Michelle Phillips and Blake Anthony Fisher faced charges related to robbery, conspiracy, and assisting a criminal. During the subsequent legal proceedings, testimony from the other suspects identified Marsh as the shooter.
The judicial outcomes varied for those involved. Katyun Marsh was convicted of murder and received a 60-year prison sentence. Brandi Phillips, who was 29 at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty to charges including assisting a criminal, forgery, and fraud, resulting in a 12-year sentence. Blake Fisher, aged 24 at the time of the incident, also faced serious charges and provided testimony during the proceedings that implicated Marsh as the gunman.
