In Evansville, Indiana, a grim story unfolded in March 2022, ending the life of 30-year-old Candilyn Michelle Sexton and her unborn son. A woman known for her contagious smile and big heart, Sexton was a mother to four children and was actively pursuing a better future for her family by taking online coding classes. Her life, however, was tragically cut short in her home on West Indiana Street.
The circumstances of her death were particularly harrowing. On March 30, 2022, Sexton was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The investigation quickly pointed to her boyfriend, Scott L. Terry Jr. In a disturbing turn of events, it was revealed that Terry had used Sexton's own cell phone to record the fatal shooting. He then sent the video to his mother, who promptly alerted the authorities.
Following the incident, Terry himself contacted 911. When police arrived, they found Sexton deceased. Terry was taken into custody without incident and subsequently admitted to the shooting, citing a 'tumultuous relationship' with Sexton. He was arrested and charged with her murder.
The legal process that followed brought some measure of justice for Sexton and her family. In May 2025, Scott L. Terry Jr. pleaded guilty to the murders of both Candilyn Sexton and her unborn child. He was subsequently sentenced to a total of 105 years in prison, receiving consecutive sentences of 55 and 50 years for the two lives he took.
