In the East Hills neighborhood of Pittsburgh on a Saturday morning, a distressing 911 call was made by a man who had been shot in the chest. The call, which came in around 11 a.m. on September 23, 2023, set in motion a rapid response from law enforcement. Detectives already in the vicinity were able to reach the 2300 block of East Hills Drive within minutes, where they found 37-year-old Allen Jerrone Stevens grievously wounded.
The officers immediately began to render aid to Stevens until medical personnel arrived.
Paramedics quickly transported Stevens to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of both the officers on the scene and the medical staff at the hospital, Allen Jerrone Stevens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity. As the investigation into the fatal shooting began, police recovered a firearm from the scene and a woman was taken to police headquarters for questioning.
The investigation progressed, and a few days later, an arrest was made in connection with the death of Allen Jerrone Stevens. On September 26, 2023, the Pittsburgh Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals, located and arrested 20-year-old Trevon Taylor. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with criminal homicide and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.
