On the morning of Friday, June 17, 2022, the Knoxville neighborhood of Pittsburgh was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the life of Alec Gary Wilbur. A 31-year-old Black male, Wilbur was found shot to death on McKinley Street. The events unfolded around 7:20 a.m. when police were dispatched to the 200 block of the street after receiving a shot-fired alert. There, they discovered Wilbur, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene and pronounced him dead.

One neighbor, who heard approximately a dozen gunshots, described the fleeing individual as a young man dressed entirely in black and wearing a mask.
