In the early morning hours of August 2, 2025, a dispute at a Lawrenceville gas station in Pittsburgh escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old Davon Smith-Mahdi. The incident unfolded at the A-Plus Sunoco on Butler Street, where Smith-Mahdi and his brother encountered the night clerk, 22-year-old Randell Antonio Tate.
