On Monday, July 1, 2024, Newman was fatally shot at his residence while heroically attempting to protect his long-term partner's niece, 22-year-old Antonyia Stewart. The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between Stewart and her ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Jaylen McCollins.
