On a Saturday afternoon, November 25, 2017, the life of 24-year-old Lamont Darnell Carry of East Pittsburgh was tragically cut short. A Black / African American male, he was in the 1300 block of Wood Street in Wilkinsburg when he was shot multiple times. The shooting occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. near the intersection with Singer Place. After being wounded, Carry fled to the 1300 block of Hays Street, where he collapsed.
First responders found him at the Hays Street location and
transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Lamont Darnell Carry succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity as the victim of the fatal shooting.
The Allegheny County Police homicide unit immediately began an investigation into the shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident, asking anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious to contact their tip line. At the time, officials did not release any information about a possible motive or any potential suspects in the killing. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in the area.
