On the night of August 31, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred in downtown Pittsburgh, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Lonnie "Block" Latham III. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Smithfield Street and Strawberry Way. Pittsburgh police officers, who were in the vicinity, responded promptly upon hearing gunshots.
