On a summer night in Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood, the life of 18-year-old Darrian Davis was tragically cut short. The young Black man from West Homestead was sitting in a parked car on Johnston Avenue on July 1, 2022, when gunfire erupted. A bullet struck Davis, leading to his death approximately 40 minutes later. Two other people in the car with him were also wounded in the attack; one suffered injuries to the chest and neck, while the other sustained a graze wound to the hand.
The investigation into the shooting led Pittsburgh police to identify Quentin Primus, then 22, of Munhall as the suspect. In August 2022, Primus was arrested and faced a series of serious charges, including homicide, aggravated assault, and attempted homicide. At the time of his arrest for the murder of Darrian Davis, Primus was already incarcerated at the Allegheny County Jail on unrelated charges.
The legal proceedings against Quentin Primus concluded in January 2024, when he was found guilty of first-degree murder for his role in the fatal shooting. As a result of his conviction, Primus was sentenced to life in prison. In March 2024, an additional 43 years were added to his sentence. While the conviction brought a measure of justice for the death of Darrian Davis, authorities noted that a co-conspirator in the crime had not been identified.
