In the summer of 2023, the life of 34-year-old Angel Peralta was cut short in Scottsboro, Alabama. A male, he had been born and raised in Miami, Florida, and had spent much of his adult life in Panama City, Florida, before moving to Scottsboro for the last year of his life. He was known to his loved ones as 'Jr.' or 'Miami.'
On the afternoon of Saturday, July 22, 2023, what began as a dispute between neighbors on Maple Avenue escalated into a fatal encounter.
Scottsboro police officers were dispatched to a residence around 1 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Angel Peralta had sustained a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement identified a suspect. Gary Kelly, a 62-year-old man, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Investigators reported that the incident stemmed from an argument between Kelly and Peralta, who were neighbors. Kelly was subsequently arrested and formally charged with murder. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Jackson County Jail.
