On July 16, 2019, in Opp, Alabama, 44-year-old Michael Devone Davis was fatally shot by Anthony James "A.J." Siler Jr. The events leading up to the shooting began the previous evening when Siler and Davis had multiple interactions at various locations in Opp, each escalating in hostility. Witnesses reported that Davis discussed his past sexual relationship with Siler in front of others, which angered Siler. Siler expressed his intent to kill Davis, stating to a witness that he would do so.
