On August 3, 2019, 40-year-old Derrick Blount was fatally shot in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM in the 3400 block of Mobile Highway. Responding officers found Blount deceased at the scene.

The Montgomery Police Department swiftly identified and arrested 22-year-old Markel Thomas in connection with the shooting. Thomas was charged with murder and held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $150,000 bond.
