In the late summer, a promising young life was unexpectedly cut short in Gadsden, Alabama. Allen Merrick, a 19-year-old male, was visiting his hometown when he sustained a gunshot wound. Details about the specifics of the incident remain limited, but it happened on a Thursday while he was home. Merrick was an incoming freshman linebacker for the University of Alabama at Birmingham's football team. After the shooting, he was transported to UAB Hospital for medical treatment.
