On June 9, 2022, in Gadsden, Alabama, 32-year-old Robert Tyler White was fatally shot by police outside Walnut Park Elementary School. White, originally from Bunnlevel, North Carolina, had been attempting to enter the school during a summer literacy program attended by approximately 34 children. All exterior doors were securely locked, preventing his entry.
