Charles Gordon Cox, a 26-year-old patrolman with the Gadsden Police Department in Gadsden, Alabama, lost his life in the line of duty on November 17, 1942. He was fatally shot during an incident where he and his partner interrupted a robbery in progress at the intersection of 3rd and Chestnut Streets.
