Travis Lashun Spears, a 29-year-old Black man known to some as "Yung Webb," was described by those who knew him as loving, caring, kind, and family-oriented. His life was cut short in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 7, 2023, in his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama.
Just before 5 a.m., Gadsden police received multiple calls reporting a man with a gun and shots fired at Da' Avenue, a club and sports bar on Tuscaloosa Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Travis Spears in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported him to Riverview Regional Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries.
The Gadsden Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation. Their work quickly led them to a suspect, and an arrest was made shortly after the shooting. Authorities took 41-year-old Jerry Lamond Daniels into custody in connection with the case.
Daniels was subsequently charged with murder for the death of Travis Spears. He was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $200,000. As of January 2023, the investigation was ongoing, and the case was set to move through the judicial system.
